DO YOU KNOW...

For thousands of years, Dang Gui (angelica sinensis) containing TCM formulas have been used for treating menopause symptoms and other disorders in women.  An estrogen-like property is a basis for its use for women, but do you know why it does not have the serious side effects of hormone (estrogen) replacement therapy that cause breast cancer and heart problems.  The mystery has now been solved by scientists.   Women in menopause suffer from hot flashes, sweating, anxiety, mood swings, as well as an increased risk for many health problems, such as bone density reduction, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and pain. These problems are largely due to the deficiency of estrogen.  While hormone (estrogen) replacement therapy (HRT) helps many women relieve menopause symptoms, its use has recently been discouraged because of an increased risk of breast cancer and coronary artery disease in women who use HRT.  Traditionally, Dang Gui containing formulas have been commonly prescribed to women in China as a remedy for menopausal symptoms, menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), irregular periods, and other disorders.  For example, Dang Gui Bu Xue Tan, a traditional formula containing Dang Gui and Huang Qi (Radix Astragali), is often given to female patients to raise their ‘‘Qi’’ (their vital energy) and nourish their ‘‘Blood’’ (their body circulation).  Pharmacological results indicated that the Dang Gui-containing formula has the abilities to promote hematopoietic functions, to stimulate cardiovascular circulation, to prevent osteoporosis, to increase anti-oxidation activity and to stimulate the immune system.  Why Dang Gui is especially helpful for women? A recent study shows for the first that Dang Gui in the TCM formulas such as Dang Gui Bu Xue Tan produces estrogen-like effects by directly acting on estrogen receptors to boost functions in a manner similar to what estrogen does (Gao et al., 2007).  However, one of the effects of estrogen in hormone replacement therapy is to induce cell proliferation, which is associated with the side effects (e.g. breast cancer) of hormone replacement therapy.  On the other hand, unlike the estrogen in hormone replacement therapy, Dang Gui containing formulas do not induce cell proliferation.  The study by Gao et al. (2007) further identified cellular and molecular mechanisms by which Dang Gui containing formulas activate estrogen receptors without inducing cell proliferation.  Because of this property, women who take Dang Gui containing formulas get benefits from Dang Gui’s estrogen-like effect but will not risk themselves to the serious side effects that have been seeing in hormone replacement therapy.

A Pain Patient's experience with Ashi Research Products

I.  Patient's descriptions of his pain and seeking for help from Ashi Research

(09/06/06 4:22 PM)

I have what they call a bulging disc lower. When it gets irritated it causes the nerves to hurt and then the muscles around my side and back but think the Lord I don't and never have had pain in my legs or numbness.  I was in traction for 9 days one time and had a MRI done and that is when I was told that it does not warrant surgery. I have had two epidural block shots that seem to help some. Later I was hurting so bad that I went to a chiropractor for 5 years and he showed me how to exercise my back. I lay on a block of ice for 15 minutes off for 30 and then back on for another 15.  I then do my exercise which are lay on my back and pull my legs up and wrap my arms around them and do a rocking up and down for about 25 reps and rest and it seems to really help but will be sore for a few days.

Thanks for your concern and if you see that it would help please let me try your product.

Sincerely

Richard Smith

I have been using the cream now for 12 days and my back has really improved but still am experiencing some discomfort but not like it had been.  It must really be relaxing the area. So far am really pleased with it.

Thanks

Dear Friends and Colleagues

Posted below is Ashi Pain Special Instruction for Practitioners.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Ashi Pain relief products for chronic pain are highly potent.  As part of the healing process they generally create an initial feeling of warmth or even heat in the area of application. This is beneficial and is an important part of the healing process.  Some patients, however, may complain that it feels too hot for comfort. The normal sensation of warmth can be intensified by exposure to external heat such as by taking a hot shower or by sitting in the sun, or by the application of too much of the formulation. When you give our chronic pain

products to your patients we ask that you share the following information with them:

1)        That a feeling of heat in the area of application is normal. It is a beneficial part of the healing process.  And that they should avoid sources of external heat such as a hot shower, extended exposure to the sun, or contact with a hot object for about two hours.

2)        If they feel discomfort it can relieved rapidly by applying cold water, or sometimes by simply going into an air conditioned room.

3)        If an uncomfortably hot sensation is experienced that they should reduce the amount of the product used when they next apply it.

4)        That the discomfort will cease with regular application during the first four weeks.

Please encourage your patients to follow the above. It is important that the Ashi Pain products for chronic pain

be used consistently, as directed, for up to four weeks in order to achieve maximum pain relief. They then

should be used consistently as needed to maintain optimal relief from pain.
